Project Description

This project will consist of the construction of a new 143,000 ft2 building for NRCan's CANMET Laboratories at the new McMaster Innovation Park in Hamilton, Ontario. The building will house approximately 85 full-time equivalent staff members, and consist of approximately 71% lab spaces, 20% office space and 9% specialized support areas. Construction budget is estimated at $36,500,000. The facility will be constructed using a Design/Bid/Build format and groundbreaking is planned for September, 2008.

CANMET plays a leading role in developing and promoting a sound scientific foundation for protocols related to metals and metal products as well as environmental protection decisions at both a national and international level. The McMaster Innovation Park will transform vacant brownfields and warehouses into a premiere research park, housing laboratory, office, teaching, training, and conference facilities. Both CANMET and the Innovation Park are interested in demonstrating leadership in the field of green building. As a demonstration of this leadership, the project will pursue LEED Platinum-level certification.
